05 Jun :: Beetroot Ruby Smoothie ::
I scare myself thinking my kidney is failing.
And when I recalled what I had for breakfast, oh.. it’s the BEET! Ha!
If you’re like me, thinking beetroot has a supportive function of liver detoxification, it’s actually more than that.
Beetroot is a nitrate-rich vegetable.
Dark red colour of beet reminds you of blood and it’s no wonder that it helps to lower blood pressure due to its nitrate conversion to vasodilator nitric oxide.
Fascinating thing is that it has shown to improve exercise by reducing oxygen use and increases running performance.
What a gem!
Nitric oxide helps to dilate blood vessels like how those GTN tablets work when someone has an angina attack.
Definitely doing this before going for a marathon the next time.
Let’s make this smoothie!
- 1 medium sized beetroot
- ½ cup carrot
- 2 tbsp flaxseeds
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 cup water
- Optional sweetener – 2 dates, pitted
- Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend till smooth.
