11 Dec 5 SELF-CARE IDEAS THAT YOU’VE FORGOTTEN
How many times have you had this conversation –
Friend : “Hi! How are you?”
You : “I’m VERY BUSY, how are things with you?”
Friend : “I’m good. What’s going on?”
You : “Oh you know, it’s ENDLESS. Work is crazy, ferrying my kids from one activity to another, feeding the dog, cooking every night and doing household chores.
What do you see when you look at the mirror?
Do you see a person looking back at you that is confident and glowing with health?
Let’s face it.. we’re tired and overwhelmed with responsibility.
And I want you to start feeling like yourself again, too.
It’s time to slow down.
You need a break.
You DESERVE a break.
This December holiday is a great opportunity for self-care and filling your inner well.
Here are 5 simple, but highly effective ways you could do that today and in the coming week…
1) The gift of Hot Water
Kick start your morning by drinking warm water (add a squeeze of lemon, if you like) upon waking up. It helps to re-hydrate the body and flush out toxins after 7-8 hours of sleep. Quick tip – keep a thermos beside your bed. Having aches and pains? Use a hot water bag as a warm, soothing companion to help you through and getting restful sleep.
2) The gift of Nutrients
Your first meal, a.k.a your breakfast is going to set the tone of your day. If you’re in a haste, make a smoothie! They’re fast and packed with goodness. See recipes here, here, here or here for ideas. You’ll probably make better choices throughout the day when you start on a positive note.
3) The gift of Breathing
The goal of a breathing meditation is to activate your parasympathetic – rest and digest system which is so important in today’s stressful lifestyle. Take a few minutes to sit quietly, close your eyes and just be thankful for all that you have. If meditation is not your thing, take a walk around your neighbourhood to get a fresh breath of air.
4) The gift of Sunshine
The more sun exposure you have, the more energetic you become via the mitochondrial cells. Morning sun is critical for circadian sleep-wake cycle, brain function (dopamine and serotonin), and switching on the orexin system which affects your appetite. Let the sun shine in your life! Did I also mention you get your Vitamin D for free?
5) The gift of Recharging
Give yourself a little gift. It could be a flower, massage, spa, yoga retreat, creative hobby, music or a nap! Whatever it is, schedule time to unplug. Recharge your batteries. I promise you’ll comeback with more motivation and drive.
Now, it doesn’t matter if you know these already.
Because at the end of the day, doing it is what really matters most.
Taking good care of yourself is a powerful healing force. Don’t ignore it.
You’re IMPORTANT, you’re VALUABLE.
So here’s a challenge for you, which self care ideas are you starting right NOW?
P.S. This year, I’ve enrolled in a yin yoga teacher training course that taps on healing energy work. Really looking forward to integrate this knowledge in my yoga classes next year, 2017.
